RIP Sweet Reggie

It is with great sadness that barkinside announces the passing of our little hero Reggie.

 Like so many people his supporters fan club and well wishers, the first thing Ive done once I'd logged into Facebook was to go straight to the Barkinside page to check for updates on Reggie's progress as he tried to recover from the acute anaemia and the awful effects of leishmaniasis.

 It was with a heavy heart that I read that he had crossed the rainbow bridge this morning.

"Today I had to kill/murder a beautiful soul. All because of the cruelty of one man. I rescued 4 dogs from you. All of whom, were neglected, sick, terrified. 2 are homed and loved. Little Rosie is safe with me. Little Reggie has crossed the rainbow bridge. My heart is shattered and tired. I pray I never see you again. I will be sending a private message, you won't like it. I know you're still doing this. WTF is the matter with you. Rest in peace my sweet, beautiful Prince. We fought so hard." [Jacqueline Roberts 10th June 2025]

Who can forget in early December 2024 when these twin podenco puppies, "Rosie and Reggie" were rescued by Barkinside from a life of absolute hell, they had survived a nightmare together, but like so many they remained, "So stunning, so scared, from a place of absolute horror".

5th December 2024, "We're moving slowly forward. This afternoon I have given these beautiful babies, Rosie and Reggie, their medication for worms , parasites and fleas. They took the sausages directly from my hand. I got to stroke Rosie, the little girl who first bit me out of fear. These babies have lived wild, so each little step is huge. Gave them more fleecy blankets as they are beginning to like beds and snuggling. Made my day"

6th December 2024, "Rosie and Reggie, getting braver by the day,

small steps with these two precious souls"

Six months on, and their lives and physical and mental condition have changed beyond recognition.

They have gone from 2 frightened and timid animals, looking like they would always be too scared to ever trust another human again (and rightly so), to happy, relaxed, healthy, loving , core members of the Barkinside Pack.

Rosie in particular has changed dramatically for the better. One day when they were left with the others at the Sanctuary while their hero mum went out shopping and this unexpectedly happened - they came out of the protection of their hiding place and took up The Central Position inside the caraven and on to the bed, where all Barkinside dogs aspire to be.

15th February 2025,"Rosie has chosen to join us on the bed. Giant step."

15th February 2025, "We went to the medieval market today and came home to find Rosie and Reggie, not only , not in the airlock, but happily settled in the caravan , after the heart stopping shock. I'm delighted. They chose to find me. Awesome . Massive step, even if somewhat unplanned."
