Please welcome Tiburón A stunning Great Dane. Only 5 years old and was finding life in kennels incredibly stressful. Asoka and Nick Moore asked for our help as he was becoming very depressed. Lucas Lucas What we were hoping was going to be a big celebration post to welcome our newest family member, Lucas it's still a massive welcome and hello from all of us - But after this usual vet checkup which all of our dogs get on arrival things have started to look less and less positive for our new friend. We were so happy that we managed to rescue "Absolutely beautiful Lucas" - he was in a heartbreaking situation when we found him -   "he'd lost the will to live after being abandoned then attacked in the perrera" we were all hoping for the very best for him. [12th August 2025] " We think he's older than 9. The poor boy is a mess. To find himself with no hope in a perrera is heartbreaking. The lovely Anna Tinline and friend, got him out,but there was no chance of homing him. They asked for our help. Tomorrow we will take him to Paraiso Del Perro so we can make him feel better and more comfortable. Tomorrow afternoon he will go to our vet Pedro Azevedo and have all the necessary tests and treatment. Whatever the outcome, he is safe now, and can live out his life with us at the sanctuary. Guess where he will be sleeping from now on. Finding him a home to spend his last years would be wonderful" ...... full of hope and positivity for our future together, we stopped off at our favourite treat at Paraiso del pero for a quick grooming session on the way to the vets - our friends at Paraiso del Pero tell us "he was so grateful to have the attention and the feeling of being clean, not smelling, no more being covered with Flies, that he took it all in his stride. His back is tender, but needed to be dealt with as it was a mess. Dry skin, matted fur etc. My dear friend, did everything perfectly" - of course, "Mr Mcphee came along, as always for the bisquits". everything was going so well and the future was looking so bright for Lucas, We were looking forward to spending time with him. And we still are - it's just not going to be as much time as we were expecting - that's what this post is about instead of the big welcome and party which we will still have But it will be tinged with deep sadness for the poor boy. his first sets of blood tests didn't appear too bad in fact they were quite good, "NO temperature. Eye infection. Antibiotics and pain killer for trauma to his back. We think from dog attack . No heart murmur, thank goodness, as his teeth need doing badly. He's so much better after this mornings grooming. Now follows me about and talks to me all the time. Fingers crossed" [13th August 2025] but within less than 24 hours everything had changed for our lucas. This afternoon [14th August 2025], "We have just returned home from seeing our vet Pedro Azevedo, after the ultrasound for Lucas. The news is not good. After the horrendous blood results from yesterday,  the emergency ultrasound revealed his liver to be a mass of tumours. There is absolutely nothing we can do. We have some new medication and treatment.  But it is now palliative care for the few weeks he has left. I absolutely was not expecting this. We are gutted and after shedding tears, have resolved to giving him love and care in abundance.  I pray he falls asleep in the sun, but he will let me know when he is ready and either way, I will be with him."

Beautiful Pucca

Pucca became ours officially yesterday 29th July 2025 So today we went to our vets for a full check up. We know she had leishmaniosis, but we need, through, bloodwork to see how she is doing. Our vet was very pleased, so we just wait for the results. We then decided to street test her with other dogs and people. She's awesome 8th May 2025 Yesterday our beautiful Pucca was taken on a walk by the lovely Adrian and Sue Swan, who brought her to us from Asoka. She's a wonderful girl. About 11 and looking for a home to spend her last years with. Please care and share. Please pm me if you can help this gorgeous girl.

Micky

Absolutely adorable

I am delighted to say that we have taken Micky under the care of Barkinside Sanctuary. He is absolutely gorgeous. Serious health issues. Mainly leishmaniosis. And after some trauma to the spine, he has become unable to walk. We will do everything we can to help him. We have the pool. Wheels and pushchairs . He is bright and alert. Never give up. Rescues working together, just as it should be Meet Micky. Absolutely adorable. He is about 15 years old and has subsequent health issues plus trauma to his spine. We are working with him daily to give him the absolute best care possible for whatever length of time he has with us. A truly beautiful soul. I have been watching Micky very closely, to appraise his movements and his strength. He has already, when carried into the garden taken 4 steps, guided , but of his own accord. So, i took the decision, to allow him into the dog pool. If nothing else it would cool him down. All four legs went into swim mode. This is a good sign. We let him paddle and then, just float. He absolutely loved it. Now, fast asleep. I'm not expecting a great deal of sleep for the next few nights but I can nap on and off, as I must keep a close eye on him. Never give up

Angel

A quick update on Angel. [7th August 2025] She now weighs 21kgs ! Awesome. She weighed 13 when we rescued her. Her dad has just booked them a holiday in a dog friendly hotel by the sea for 5 days in October. I am so so happy for her. RESERVED. Meet the oh so wonderful Angel Angel We have only today added her to the album of dogs needing homes as the details and photos were so distressing. We rescued her from the campo literally at deaths door. Her injuries and neglect were truly awful, and unbelievably she had an owner !!!! The police were of course involved and she is now safely ours and as she is doing so well, she is now available for adoption. She has leishmaniosis, which is under control and being monitored closely. Angel, and her injuries and wounds are recovering and healing well. She is beautiful. Despite enduring many attempts to cut her tail off and so so much other abuse Angel's main focus in life is still her relationships with people. She is loving, playful, affectionate and kind. Alegria, one of the most stunning dogs I have ever seen, and one of the most beautiful natures. Now nearly 10 years old and no one has come to see her. She was rescued a few years ago after being found on the streets of Seville. She had definitely been used for breeding and possibly baiting and she was very aggressive. We gave ourselves a time limit to try and help her and after about 4 months this beautiful sweet girl emerged. A serious cuddle monster. She has been with us about 4 years sadly and we are very happy for her to remain in what she thinks of as her home, she like all the others now lives in the sanctuary.

A delightful little man, our Bernie Bottom. He has a slight murmur on his heart and is having treatment. He is about 16 years old and left in a perrera, who asked for our help, seriously loving and sweet.

Lovely gsd girl only 8 years old

Meet our lovely gsd girl Blossom, only 8 years old and was terrified of human contact, we have worked with her as we did with others and hope we can make her feel safe . We were asked by a volunteer at another rescue to help her as no one could get near her, never nasty but absolutely terrified. We have tried to home her once and realised that it was not to be, so i took a different action and moved her up to the house, where she now lives very happily. if you attempt to get her out of the gate she screams, so I no longer worry, she is so happy and settled here, gets up to mischief, she has a good life

The oh so wonderful Flecha. Only a baby of 18 months old, born with Cerebral Hypoplasia due to her mother having Parvo. The part of the brain that coordinated movement has not developed so this gorgeous little girl is classed as disabled and will sadly always be so. She is a bloody lovely girl and we have build a whole are for her to be safe in. She is very loving, but patience is definitely needed 24 hours a day. We fully expect her to spend the rest of her life at the Sanctuary and we are happy to give her a good life with your support , thank you

7 years old

The amazing Luna, who is now 7 years old and has been with us for 3 years. When she arrived she had terrible cataracts and could barely see due to a misdiagnosis of cushings disease. In fact she had diabetes and was skin and bone, in terrible condition and we nearly lost her. once the insulin was controlled with twice daily injections and her weight stabilised, we were able to see the hospital and have the operation, you were all amazing and helped me raise the 2500 euros to cover the cost. The moment she could see again was one I will never forget as long as I live. We have ben going every month for the last two years and this July will be her last visit.

This is our wonderful Mari Luz, rescued from an horrendous situation where she was abandoned twice, She has a problem with her face and ears caused by contact with processionary caterpillars when only a baby. She was born in 2013, now 9 years old and has been with us for 6 years. A huge cuddle monster and has met nearly every dog we have brought into Barkinside Sanctuary

Reserved Little Noel,or Nully as we call this little darling, born in February 2014, he is a cute little scruffy boy , loves company, loves toys as you can see, really sweet boy. Due to his previous life being so hard he has had problems with anyone approaching him if he was in his kennel, under a seat for anything, he was terrified as we truly believe he had been beaten. Now he has lost that fear after months and long hours working with him, he will get on your lap and huge cuddles . I have just moved him into the sanctuary to be with all the other littlies.

Hi there. My name is Trevor. I am a neglect case, sadly. I was left on a balcony in all weathers, no love or attention and was going slowly mad with frustration. My face became infected and was angry with pus and I was angry and so scared with pain. Everyone thought I was aggressive and a nasty. I was only scared. My Auntie Jacquie worked with another lady and a nice policeman and saved me. I now get love, treatment, huge cuddles, belly rubs, food, a bed, warmth , shade and safety. I am so happy and my Auntie will continue to work with me. I know she loves me. I am only about 5 years old. I have so much love to give xxx
