4th May 2026 [update]
In 2022, we were asked by another Rescue in Murcia for our help.
An old German Shepherd, kept in appalling conditions, needed Urgent help.
Exceedingly grumpy through pain and imbedded metal collar!
Kept in a cage.
Unclean, unsanitary, no love or affection.
His owner had abandoned him!
We brought him here, and even then, he was aged at 12 years old.
Urgent medical care for the infections, tlc.
He got to live out his last years, free, he could eat, and sleep where he wished. Bimbled about every day.
Awesome unintentional guard dog, Not ! .
Loved everyone he met.
Gentle giant.
His legs began weakening a few weeks ago, though still fine and active.
We knew his time was near.
Today we said goodbye, he was ready.
No illnesses, just an old boy, who was tired.
Fell asleep in the sanctuary. sleep well sweet prince.

Meet the stunning Duque. He is about 12 years of age and found himself shut away, with no contact or outside interaction. We were asked to rescue him and now , this so called aggressive dog, is free, lives where he chooses, sleeps in the house. Truly gentle old man, loves men xxx

10th November 2022 How handsome our Duque has turned out to be. Shiny coat, put on weight. Plays and does all day. His favourite place is on this carpet guarding the front gate to see who he can get cuddles from. Nothing like the frightened and angry boy we rescued. A big gentle giant | ||
6th September 2022 Mega morning at Barkinmad. Duque has had a great night, I'm thinking he can hear properly for the first time. Bathed and medicated his ears. An absolute mess. Why oh why can't people care for their dogs ! His aggression was caused by terrible pain !! Today we have a wagging tail. A full passport. Cleared bloodtests. Protective collars on. And history in the making, he's making friends with the others, no more barking or growling. His life has totally changed. He's just a big softie. | ||
31st August 2022 Dear Duque slept well on a big comfy bed. He has no idea about. Food, treats, anything. I have to be very careful because of his ear infection, it hurts him. Today, let the work and the love begin. | ||
3rd September 2022 Good morning from Duque in his new red collar. He's decided he likes Bakers moist food, so that he shall have. Now beginning, under control, to say hello to the other babies. Small steps xxx | ||
1st September 2022 Duque is settling in beautifully. He loves his big bed. Now takes treats. I can cuddle him, and he mega loves it . So today was to introduce his own pool. He's not sure but not frightened. Excellent. I cannot flood his senses with too much too soon. Little steps | ||
6th November 2022 Another update for you all. Duque is looking amazing. Putting on some weight. Spends his whole day playing with the girls, Mari Luz and Blossom and cuddles up with them at night. He loves his new life. He actually runs. He's very healthy. Not a bad bone in this big boy. Never ceases to amaze me how dogs are defined by the owners treatment of them. I bloody adore him. A true gentle giant | ||
26th July 2025 One of the shaded areas we have created and where we have the cuttings for the next trees we are cultivating. Duque and Mari Luz love it here. Total shade. Love it | ||
5th September 2022 Duque is home. All good. Serious ear infections. 3 types, not good , so lots of treatment, check up in 8 days. Pasta and liver for dinner. 4th September 2022 Update on Duque. He is so easy to train. He just wants to please. Treats, so gentle, sit and paw. Never asked him He just loves human company. Bonded so quick. Worked with gsds a great deal. Had 6 many years ago. Its as if I have Spartan back home. I'm loving every moment, watching him come alive, bloody magic xxx | ||
30th August 2022 Duque has seen our vets. Blood tests. Innoculations, passport. He has a bad ear infection in both ears sadly. He's on antibiotics, and pain killers. Booked in for Monday. Castration, ear cleaning (it's too painful now ). Nail clipping. Now it's home , big bed, food and to learn all about being a pack dog and new life. ute Jaeckel brought this boy to my attention.
